Do you want a professional favicon for every browser?

Of course you do! But, today, favicons are ridiculously complex. There are so many options and so many devices to consider and making your icon look professional on every device can be very time consuming. I spent hours trying to get mine just right... For you to get flawless perfection, you're making a large time investment. But, there's another way which I'll get to...

So, what is it that you need to consider?

There's these components:

  • The historical favicon.ico which you need and can just place in your root website directory and be done with it. But, that looks awful everywhere except on the tabs of a desktop browser.
  • A very large number of each of the different resolutions for many different browsers, tablets, smartphones and other devices to create.
  • A manifest configuration file that defines each of the images that you create for every device.
  • A browserconfig.xml file to configure.
  • meta
    and
    link
tags (many, not just one) to add to the
    head
    html
    .
  • Consider the nuances of every platform and the special styles they apply that re-style your icon
  • And you litter your root folder with all this.

It's so complicated the Wikipedia has a whole page on Favicon with nearly 50 referenced articles... yikes.

So what to do?

Use a tool that does all that for you. It's doable, to do it yourself, but trust me... You don't want to! Real Favicon Generator will do it for you for free. The tool is extremely user friendly and very thorough. Upload your icon and follow the instructions. Download the zip file and upload the files to your site.
Oh, and don't worry about clearing your browser cache, it will add a query parameter automatically (within the config files and tags) for you if you choose that option in the configurator.

Big Time Saver!

Now, get back to coding!

Note: I have no affiliation to them, I'm just a happy user and I did donate. You should consider to as well.
